04/13/2005: Here's some Christian love for you....
Sometimes you gotta love living in the South (though I hasten to add that this is all the way in the other end of the state from me). This is an actual, honest to God, church sign, which (at least recently) could be found in the thriving metropolis of Newport, TN:
I gotta admire the assistant pastor who, when faced by the inevitable TV news crew, started spinning the sign like a top:
An assistant pastor at the church, who declined to go on camera, told 6 News the sign's main message is that people shouldn't put their hope in the pope alone. He insisted the church isn't trying to say the pope is in hell, saying that people are misunderstanding the sign.Um.... Pastor, what part of "hell-bound pope" don't you seem to understand? The only way the sign doesn't say that he's in hell is under the interpretation that he's on his way, but not quite there yet....
And the really scary thing is that some of these bozos want to take political power and write your laws--using the Old Testament for a guide. If they had their way, you'd see your kid stoned to death for sassing you back. Or see yourself stoned to death because your concept of God isn't one they approve of.
