From Taegan Goddard's Political Wire: Kerry-McCain ticket crushes Bush-Cheney
Sen. John Kerry "holds an eight-point lead" over President Bush among registered voters in the latest CBS News poll, 49% to 41%, "but one of the names currently bandied about as a running mate for him - Republican Sen. John McCain - gives Kerry an even larger edge when added to the ticket."Given that McCain very justifiably despises Bush for the despicable way that the Bush campaign savaged McCain in the 2000 primaries, it'd be the most incredibly satisfying revenge for McCain to know he could bury Bush by this simple expedient. If he can resist the temptation, he's a much better man than I am. (Actually, McCain is a much better man than I am anyway, even if he doesn't resist the temptation to screw over Bush like this.)
Though McCain has insisted that he is not interested in running for vice president, America’s voters "do have interest in such a bi-partisan slate: a hypothetical Kerry/McCain pairing holds a 14-point advantage over President Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney, nearly double the 8-point lead Kerry has alone over Bush."
