01/24/2005: Didja hear about the VW suicide bomber ad?
It shows, if you can believe it, a suicide bomber driving up to a café in a VW Polo and trying to detonate a car bomb. But he manages to blow only himself up—the sporty little roadster absorbs the blast, proving that it is “small but tough.”Frankly, as a real ad it'd be shocking and sickening. As a spoof of VW ads, I think personally, that it's a stroke of genius. Sick, yes. Tasteless, definitely. But still, a stroke of genius.
As if we needed it, we have gotten official word that neither VW nor any of its agencies (including DDB, its lead shop in Europe) had anything to do with this. It is indeed a hoax. Move on, please. Nothing to see here.

For the record, you need QuickTime installed. Also, this wouldn't work in Firefox; I had to swallow my purity and use Internet Exploder, instead. But I thought it was worth it.

Good to know. I probably have to figure out how to install the plug in. Or upgrade it; one o'the two.
