Dark Bilious Vapors

But how could I deny that I possess these hands and this body, and withal escape being classed with persons in a state of insanity, whose brains are so disordered and clouded by dark bilious vapors....

12/17/2004: Great days in history:

Of course, you remember that today is the 101st anniversary of the first powered flight, by Orville and Wilbur Wright, at Kill Devil Hills, NC.

I neglected to mention that yesterday was the 234th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven. Sorry about that.

I don't have the time to Google it, but there is a credible claim from New Zealand that a guy there beat the Wright brothers by at least a few years. And I know there are other, unsubstantiated but possible, claims as far back as the 1880's or so. Like so many great and basic ideas, it seems to have had fits and starts around the globe before finally catching on.

I know of a number of potential claimants of varying degrees of credibility. Obviously I'm not taking them seriously (which is not the same thing as dismissing them out of hand). Alas, if I could count on retiring perhaps I could devote some time to studying the question in depth....

Thanks for the reminder. I had time to throw up the Wright Flyer picture.

How dare you neglect to mention the anniversary of my birth which is called a birthday where I'm from.
