11/19/2004: Job posting....
This announcement is posted at the Baseball Prospectus website:
If you're about to graduate or have recently graduated from a top university with a degree in mathematics, statistics, or economics, and are interested in joining a Major League Baseball front office on the player personnel side, send a copy of your resume, attached in MS Word format to huckabay(at)baseballprospectus.com. In order to be considered, you must:Damn, if I were only about 25 years younger and otherwise qualified.
This is an entry level position. You can reasonably be expected to be worked like a dog for low pay, but you can also reasonably expect to learn a great deal from top professionals in MLB, see a ton of baseball, sleep on couches, eat bad food, and get on track for higher positions in baseball later on.
- Be willing to relocate
- Have a high level of proficiency with Excel, Access, another major DBMS package, and at least one other statistical package, such as SPSS, Gauss, R, etc.
- Be able to work entrepreneurially in an organization, maximizing your value with little guidance
- Have a distinguished academic record from a top school
- Love Baseball
