09/10/2004: Significant days in baseball history:
Today is the 70th anniversary of the birth of Roger Maris.
Maris has been a favorite of mine since he played with the 1967 (World Series Champs) and 1968 (NL Champs) Cardinals; my dad even managed to get his autograph on a Cardinals cap, and I've often regretted that it got misplaced in the shuffle. Of course, he is best known for his "61 in '61"--breaking Babe Ruth's single season record for home runs--but he was a bonafide All-Star and a damn good ballplayer. His death, in 1985 at the age of 51, was much too untimely.
