08/24/2004: Good news for me....
as a Cardinals fan. There's a story in the Commercial Appeal this morning that reports that the St. Louis Cardinals and the Memphis Redbirds have extended their player development contract through the 2008 season (registration required; remember what I've been telling you about BugMeNot? But if you'd rather, here's the official press release from the Cardinals website). In other words, Memphis remains the Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals through the foreseeable future.
I've often told people that as a baseball fan, it's been very convenient for me that I moved from St. Louis to a city which hosts a minor-league affiliate of the Cardinals (the fact that it's the Triple-A affilliate is even better; there's the slightly higher caliber of play, which is nice, and the fact that occasionally I get the chance to see (and even interact) with a player from the big club (scroll to the comment)). Basically, I can be a faithful fan of the Memphis team and not feel that I'm somehow dividing my loyalties; by rooting for Memphis, I'm also rooting for the Cardinals organization. I like that.
