08/11/2004: Falls From Grace Department:
Via Royalties and Cardinalate we learn that KC Royals shortstop Angel Berroa was sent down to Class AA Wichita yesterday....
Normally (as regular readers have probably noticed), I don't pay much, if any attention to the Royals. That may be a function of still never completely healing from the trauma of The Infamous Denkinger Blown Call in 1985 (or more accurately, the trauma of the vicious taunting I received from the two Royals fans I worked and socialized with back then, while I was stationed with the Navy JAG Corps in Washington, DC), but for whatever reason Royals news doesn't generally catch my attention. But I can't help but notice the Berroa demotion.
How many players have gone from Rookie of the Year one season to Class AA (not just to AA, but straight to AA? No stopover in AAA first...) before the end of the next season? Not many, I'll wager.
