07/07/2004: Gem o'the Day:
From Brian Leiter:
The most amusing part [of the RNC trashing of VP candidate John Edwards], of course, is the suggestion that he is "unaccomplished." Consider: Edwards came from a working-class family, had no special breaks in life, yet went to college and law school, and became a skilled and successful attorney. Now contrast this with the current alleged President: he had every break in life, yet couldn't do anything successfully or even competently (he even bankrupted Texas, before departing). Don't these RNC goons have any idea how ridiculous this looks?Keep in mind something that Leiter, a professor at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, has noted elsewhere.... Bush not only had every break in life, but he came from a rich, well connected family which was prominent in Texas and national politics, and yet he still couldn't get himself admitted to the state university law school (and he did apply, unsuccessfully). Almost boggles the mind. And reminds me of another potential "Gem o'the Day":
I am sure there is a place for young George Bush somewhere. However, in light of his grades on the LSAT exams, that place is not the School of Law at the University of Texas.
