Dark Bilious Vapors

A little over a week ago I blogged a review of Coca-Cola C2™ in real time, and in that review, after a quick off the cuff analysis of the ingredient label, I speculated that C2 might be Coke Classic cut with Diet Coke. Given that C2 has half the carbs/sugars and half the calories of Diet Coke, it seemed reasonable to speculate that if this was the case, that the mixture of Coke to Diet Coke would be about 50-50. Having something better to do this afternoon, it seemed a perfect day not do it by gearing up Len's Kitchen o'Science and testing out my C2 hypothesis. Granted, this is strictly qualitative research, not quantitative research, so one would be right to question whether my findings here are worth the electrons used to produce them. That's never stopped me from pontificating before, though, so here, for what it's worth, is the "experimental" methodology and results.

I got two clean glasses. In one, I poured 4 oz. of Coca-Cola C2. I then washed out the measuring cup with water (don't want to contaminate the next sample) and dried it with a clean cloth. I then measured out 2 oz. of Coke Classic, and added to that another 2 oz. of Diet Coke (making 4 oz. in total). and poured that into an identical glass (don't know if that's strictly required by the scientific method, but these are two nice glasses I got in a gift set a few Christmases ago, so it added to the aesthetics of the experiment if not to the scientific rigor). I got a slice of bread to chew between sips (to cleanse the palate, of course), and then went to it.

The result: nope, I don't think my speculation was correct. C2 still has a more defined, stronger "Coke tang" (as I call it). The Coke/Diet Coke mixture had the tang, but not nearly as strong as C2 did.

Oh well. Ain't the first time I've been wrong, and I'm sure it won't be the last...
