06/06/2004: Gem o'the Day
From Joe Bob Briggs's "Week in Review" newsletter:
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld gave a stern speech aboard the amphibious assault ship Essex in Singapore, warning about the dangers of appeasement. People who make deals with terrorists, he said, were just like the nations who tried to appease Hitler in the 1930s. Appeasement, a word not often used anymore, would be like, say, turning Falluja over to former members of the Republican Guard, or fighting two "terrorist militias" in Kufa and Najaf and then abruptly calling off the fight, giving the militias "security police" uniforms, and saying, "Okay, it's all yours now."
